Here’s how it works. Let’s say you put on a large heavy sweater right now. What happens is that your body temperature starts to rise. When your body temperature starts to rise, your internal thermostat responds to this temperature rise and you start sweating. Your sweat glands release water and salt, which helps you cool down and maintain your optimum body temperature.

You see, your body temperature is controlled by an internal thermostat. It does this so that you don’t have to think about it and you can experience a sense of balance and equilibrium at all times.

Pushing and Pulling Creates Struggle

Now your mind works in a similar way. Just think of the last time you decided to move outside “your comfort zone,” and try something new. What happened?

For instance, let’s say you really want to start writing and being more creative; maybe you have this urge to express yourself through your own unique talents and abilities.

On the outside it seems like a good idea, but on the inside you have your doubts and fears. You think to yourself,

  • “What if I’m not good enough?”
  • “What if I’m not smart enough?”
  • “What if they don’t like me?”
  • “What if I’m not qualified?”
  • “What if I’m too old?”
  • “What if I’m too young?”
  • What if, what if, what if?
